Monel copper-nickel alloy

Monel is a family of nickel-based alloys known for their exceptional corrosion resistance, high strength and outstanding durability. This type of nickel-copper alloy typically contains about 67% nickel and 28-29% copper, with small amounts of elements such as iron and manganese added to optimize performance.

Monel K-500

Monel K500 (Monel K500 / UNS N05500) is a nickel-copper alloy that can be strengthened by heat treatment. While retaining the excellent corrosion resistance of Monel 400, it obtains higher mechanical strength and hardness by adding aluminum and titanium elements. The alloy has excellent durability and structural stability, and can be processed through cold and hot processing and subsequent age strengthening to make its strength and toughness far superior to the base alloy. Monel K500 is ideal for critical high-strength, corrosion-resistant components in the oil extraction, offshore and chemical industries.

Monel K500, or also known as UNS N05500, is an age-hardenable nickel-copper alloy that retains the excellent corrosion resistance of Monel 400 while offering greater mechanical strength and hardness. This alloy provides enhanced durability and long-term structural stability. It can be hot or cold worked and subsequently heat treated in order to create an alloy with high strength and toughness compared to the basic alloy. The use in oil extraction, marine and chemical processing sectors uses this ability to the full.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What makes Monel K500 so much stronger than 400?

K500 is based on nickel copper and adds 2.3-3.15% aluminum and 0.35-0.85% titanium. It is a precipitation hardening alloy that can be strengthened through heat treatment. While retaining the excellent corrosion resistance of Monel 400, the strength and hardness are significantly increased through strengthening treatment.
