Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the positioning advantage of Hastelloy C-22 compared to other nickel-based alloys?

The page makes it clear: C-22 has superior overall corrosion resistance compared to nickel-based alloys such as C-276, C-4 and Inconel 625. It is an all-round nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten alloy, suitable for harsh industrial occasions with complex media and diverse corrosion forms.

The difference is not big: C-22 has a density of 8.69g/cm³, C-276 has a density of 8.9g/cm³, and C-22 is slightly lighter; both have the same melting point range, 1325-1370°C. The two grades are both C-series nickel-based alloys, and their physical properties are very similar. The actual selection mainly depends on corrosion resistance, positioning and medium conditions, rather than differences in physical properties.

Many process media will fluctuate back and forth between oxidizing and reducing properties, which is the most severe test for materials. C-22 relies on a nickel-based formula of 20-22.5% high chromium, 12.5-14.5% molybdenum, and 2.5-3.5% tungsten to maintain extremely high stability when alternating between oxidizing aqueous media (wet chlorine, chloride-containing nitric acid, mixed acids) and reducing environments.
