CuNi resistance alloy

Copper-nickel alloy (Cu-Ni), often called white copper in China, is mainly composed of copper and nickel, and contains small amounts of iron and manganese. These alloys offer extremely high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, low resistivity, and good thermoelectric properties. They significantly reduce the temperature coefficient of resistance and have mechanical and physical properties superior to most other copper alloys. CuNi alloy has excellent ductility, high hardness, beautiful appearance, excellent corrosion resistance, and supports deep drawing processing, showing good performance at both normal and high temperatures. In addition, they offer excellent machinability, weldability, and are non-magnetic.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The difference between CuNi2 and CuNi1 is only 1% nickel, how much difference in performance?

CuNi2 nickel 2.0%, the resistivity at 20℃ rises to 0.05±10%, which is a bit higher than the 0.03 level of CuNi1; the tensile strength is greater than 220MPa (CuNi1 is greater than 210), and the melting point of 1090℃ is also slightly higher. The maximum operating temperature of both is 200°C, and the temperature range is the same. The choice is mainly based on the target resistance value.

The manganese mark “/” indicates that this grade does not contain manganese. CuNi1, CuNi2 and even CuNi6, CuNi8 and CuNi10 in the group do not add manganese to the low nickel grades. Only 0.3% is added to CuNi14, and 1% is added to CuNi30 and above. Therefore, CuNi2 is pure copper-nickel binary copper with a simple composition.

The tensile strength is greater than 220MPa, the elongation after breaking is greater than 25%, and the ductility is sufficient. Combined with the characteristics of white copper that is easy to weld and can be processed hot and cold, it is convenient for wire winding, stamping, and pipe bending. If you want to make precision wire winding or strip stamping parts, you can directly cut and produce them according to CuNi2.
