CuNi resistance alloy

Copper-nickel alloy (Cu-Ni), often called white copper in China, is mainly composed of copper and nickel, and contains small amounts of iron and manganese. These alloys offer extremely high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, low resistivity, and good thermoelectric properties. They significantly reduce the temperature coefficient of resistance and have mechanical and physical properties superior to most other copper alloys. CuNi alloy has excellent ductility, high hardness, beautiful appearance, excellent corrosion resistance, and supports deep drawing processing, showing good performance at both normal and high temperatures. In addition, they offer excellent machinability, weldability, and are non-magnetic.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why is CuNi19 nickel marked in a range of 18-20?

The composition list on the page states nickel 18-20%, iron 0.5%, manganese 0.5%, and copper balance, indicating that nickel is controlled according to intervals rather than a single target value, and the actual composition is controlled within 18% to 20%. Both acceptance and re-inspection are judged based on 18-20%, and the composition bandwidth is wider than that of fixed-point grades.

The maximum operating temperature of the three is 300°C, and they all add manganese. The difference is in the resistivity range: CuNi14 is about 0.20±5%, CuNi19 is 0.25±5%, and CuNi23 is about 0.30±5%. If you want the middle resistance value, choose CuNi19, choose CuNi14 for the lower value, and CuNi23 for the higher value. Select the nearest resistance value according to the target resistance value of the circuit.

The tensile strength is greater than 320MPa, the elongation after break is greater than 25%, the density is 8.9g/cm³, and the melting point is 1145℃. The elongation ensures that cold bending, wire winding, and stamping are feasible. In addition, with good weldability, it can make medium-temperature resistance wires, ribbons, and small structural parts with both strength and processing in mind.
